What Is the Treatment for Low Heart Pumping?
Low heart pumping usually refers to reduced left ventricular function or a low ejection fraction (EF). Treatment depends on the cause and may include guideline-directed medicines, treatment of underlying conditions, lifestyle changes and cardiac rehabilitation, and selected devices or procedures. Some patients with coronary artery disease and persistent symptoms may also be assessed for non-invasive therapies such as EECP.
The right treatment cannot be decided from the EF number alone. A cardiology evaluation is needed to understand why heart function is reduced and which treatment is appropriate.
